You might wonder reading the title, why should I avoid healthy foods when eating healthy is a good thing? Well the answer is not simple. We common people think anything that reads 'healthy' is actually healthy. But when we go in depth about how the product is made, we will realise it’s not at all healthy as it looks.

Remember one thing, healthy foods are those which are least processed and refined. They are rather whole and organic. The next time you visit a supermarket and you find a butter which is low in fat, don't just grab it thinking it is healthy. Though your butter is low in fat, but don't forget to read other details as well. It might be high in sodium which again will pose a lot of health problems. Sometimes sugar is added to make up for the taste of those fat free or low fat products. Therefore, it is important to read the nutrition labels carefully to make healthy choices.

Often in case of grains, vegetables and fruits, nutrition labels will not benefit us. Hence, in such cases, we should let the colour decide which product is healthy and which is not. The more greener the vegetable, healthier it is. Choose dark green leafy vegetables like spinach, lettuce, fenugreek, etc. When you check out nutrition labels of your favourite healthy bar, though being high in protein, your favourite bar will have some added sugars and salt which again is not a healthy option as it looks. Though eating occasionally of such bars is allowed, but one should not make it a habit considering it as a healthy option. Instead of such healthy bars, eating organic natural foods will benefit in long run.

One more common mistake people make is that they think multigrain and whole-grain is the same. But, there is a difference between the two. Multigrain is merely addition of two or more grains and whole wheat is healthiest because it contains all parts of the grains. However, we can also make multigrain healthy by adding different grains and refining them. Though the multigrain flours are available in the market but we do not know whether all parts of the grain is added or removed during refining but when we mix and make such multigrain flour at home or send it for refining we know the proportion and quantity and we know that entire grain is being refined and no part of it is removed during the refining process.

We should learn to make wise choices at supermarkets and make a habit of reading nutrition labels. Eat wisely and stay healthy.
